Catholic cemeteries are different from other cemeteries in that they are a part of the identity and ministerial service of the Church. When one enters a Catholic cemetery, the Church's teachings about life, death, and life after death should come to mind. The Resurrection of Jesus gives us hope that we too will share in everlasting life. Catholics have always sought to place their loved ones in consecrated graves to await the general Resurrection. To the Catholic faithful, the Catholic Cemetery identifies the community of beliefs as much as the parish church itself.
Throughout the faith journey, the Church is present to celebrate significant moments in life. Since death is also a part of the human journey, it is only right that the Church should also be present when we confront this reality.
Just as the human body deserves to be treated with respect and dignity in life, so too should it be treated in death. We set aside sacred space where remembering can be fostered and we provide a place for liturgical celebration. Rosario Cemetery, Mt. Calvary Cemetery and Gate of Heaven Cemetery are institutions which encourage frequent visitation and prayer for the dead. The Catholic Cemetery Association seeks to foster an environment in which love is remembered, hope is rekindled and faith is awakened and strengthened.
